Photographing the BiTC Cymru Wales Action Week 2015Wednesday November 25, 2015
The Challenges of an Ageing Population
I have had the pleasure of photographing BiTC Cymru events over the past 18 months and was so impressed with their work that I actually joined just over 12 months ago. The latest events that I was asked to photograph were related to Wales Action Week 2015, which this year had a focus on the challenges of an ageing population.
Over 30 organisations were supporting Wales Action Week with a range of activities raising awareness of Wales' aging population. One of the aims was to set the record straight about older workers and show how valuable an asset they can be to business.
The first event was held at the Parc Thistle Hotel in Cardiff and discussed issues on employment and applying for jobs via websites. Businesses including Legal & General, John Lewis, Castle Leisure and M&S were present with Prime Cymru to talk to people about interview and application techniques.
The second event was held at the Ridgeway Golf Club on Caerphilly Mountain and was themed 'IT and Afternoon Tea'. Organised by RCT Homes with support from companies including GEAS Nantgarw, PWC and Companies House, people from one of RCT Homes' sheltered housing schemes were helped with using Tablets and Laptop PCs. Such devices provide access to social media channels that help people keep in touch with distant family and friends.
A wonderful afternoon tea of cakes and sandwiches was also supported with music from pupils of Lewis School in Pengam.
During the two photoshoots I met some wonderful people, full of life and character. Being nearly 50, many of the attendees were not much older than me! Hopefully the photographs reflect the fun and laughter that filled both venues. A selection of photographs from the two events can be seen in the Business Events section on the website.
