Grosmont Castle

HomeimagesGrosmont Castle dates back to the Norman conquest of England in 1066 when the Normans advanced into the Welsh Marches. A major Welsh revolt in 1135 forced King Stephen to bring together Grosmont Castle, Skenfrith and White Castle to form the "Three Castles".  These castles continued to defend the region against Welsh attack for several centuries, but by the 16th century had fallen into disuse and ruin. Grosmont Castle is under the care of the state and then Cadw since 1922.  Although restoration has been limited, there is plenty to see, photograph and enjoy.  There are some wonderful towers and, standing proud in the centre of the castle, is a wonderful chimney.  You can visit all Three Castle is a day and there are plenty of places to enjoy lunch or afternoon tea.
