British and Irish Lions 1997 Wooden Spoon

In 1997, the British and Irish Lions toured South Africa, the first after the end of apartheid.  The team was coached by Ian McGeechan and captained by England legend Martin Johnson. The Springboks had won the 1995 Rugby Union World Cup and, as with all Lions tours, there was great excitement and anticipation.  The Lions went on to win the series 2-1, only the third time a touring side had ever won a series in South Africa.  Three of the heroes of 1997, John Bentley, Neil Jenkins and Paul Wallace, joined host Sean Holley at the Concrete Society Annual lunch, held for the Wooden Spoon charity, in Cardiff.  They captivated the audience with tales from the tour.  A great afternoon for any rugby fan!
