Roath Park in Cardiff is one of the Welsh capital city’s most popular parks. Standing proud near the main promenade at one end of the large lake is The Scott Memorial, a small lighthouse built to commemorate Captain Scott’s ill-fated expedition to Antarctica in 1910. Work on the lighthouse was completed in 1915, but World War One delayed the official presentation to the City until October 1918. On the side of the memorial, facing the Roath Park promenade, is a plaque in memory of Captain Scott and the members of the expedition who sailed from Cardiff in the S.S. Terra Nova in 1910 and died in the Antarctic in 1912.
