Buildings are great to photograph, especially when the architect has been imaginative. I have had the opportunity to photograph houses during construction, finished new builds, restored buildings, buildings of historic interest, and houses for sale. When photographing buildings I consider colour, texture, shape and straight horizontal and vertical lines. Vital ingredients for any construction-related photograph.

Castles
In South Wales, we are blessed with some of the most wonderfully restored Castles in the world. In fact, there are more castles per square mile than in any other country of the world. Maybe this is a sign of how rebellious the Welsh were! Many of the castles in South Wales are now cared for by Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service working for an accessible and well-protected historic environment for Wales. Slowly, I am working my way around all those castles with the aim of producing a gallery of a time long since passed. Dyffryn Gardens
This is a collection of photographs of the wonderful historical house and botanical gardens of Dyffryn Gardens located near the villages of Dyffryn and St. Nicholas in the Vale of Glamorgan. There are magnificent Edwardian gardens flowing from grand vistas to intimate spaces overlooked by a large mansion. Dyffryn Gardens is cared for by a team of staff and volunteers from the National Trust. Under their loving care, the gardens have been transformed back to their former glory and the house slowly nurtured back to its previous splendour. The gardens cover more than 55 acres and feature a stunning collection of intimate garden rooms including a rose garden, Pompeian garden and several ponds. The enormous great lawn is bordered by seasonal bedding and a croquet lawn. There is also a large glasshouse, statuary collection, and arboretum featuring trees from all over the world. This is a highly recommended day out with wonderful walks and open areas for picnics and for children to play. Related galleries: Buildings.
