Castell Carreg Cennen

Castell Carreg Cennen is a stunning castle perched on a limestone hill in Carmarthenshire, Wales near the town of Llandeilo and overlooking the River Cennen.  Records suggest that forts and castles built on the site date back to the end of the 12th century.  The castle has been in the hands of both the Welsh and English, before finally being surrendered to the Yorkists in 1462 during the War of the Roses.  It was then damaged by the Yorkists to become ineffective as a stronghold.  The castle is fascinating, with stunning views across the local landscape and a mysterious tunnel that goes deep into the limestone hill.  The castle is now under the care of Cadw.
