Madeira

These photographs were captured of Madeira using a combination of the Canon 5D Mark III, GoPro Hero 9, and DJI Mini 2 drone. Each camera offered its own strengths, allowing me to capture everything from sweeping aerial landscapes to immersive trail perspectives.

Madeira’s landscape is nothing short of extraordinary. It offers an incredible diversity of dramatic mountains, rugged coastlines, lush forests, and breathtaking viewpoints. Often referred to as “Europe’s Hawaii”, it’s easy to see why Portugal’s island of Madeira has earned such a reputation.

The island’s network of levada walks and mountain trails makes it a paradise for hikers.  A particular favourite of mine was the ‘Pico’ to ‘Pico’ hike a spectacular 4.3 mile one-way trail in Madeira connecting Pico do Areeiro (the third-highest peak) to Pico Ruivo (the highest peak). Every turn presented another opportunity to experience and photograph the island’s remarkable natural beauty. Being above the clouds is something every photographer loves!
