Martin Johnson Lewis Moody Concrete Spoon 2022

There are only a handful of Northern Hemisphere rugby players who have won the rugby union world cup and two of them, captain Martin Johnson and Lewis Moody, sat on stage at the 2022 Concrete Spoon.  The Concrete Spoon is organised by the Wales Concrete Society, raising funds for the Wooden Spoon Wales and was staged at the Cardiff Arms Park.  The event is one of the most popular events in the concrete industry’s diary and, once again, Jo Davies and I got the opportunity to be the event’s photographers.  Martin Johnson is a legend of the game, having captained England to Grand Slam and World Cup success as well as British and Irish Lions in 1997 and 2001.  Lewis ‘Mad Dog’ Moody was a marauding back row forward who epitomised the way both the Leicester Tigers and England played.  As always, the room was full of other rugby legends supporting the Wooden Spoon including Robert Jones, Bob Norster and Paul Thorburn.  In a Q&A, insightfully guided by host Sean Holley, Johnson and Moody told tales from their rugby days, many of which brought howls of laughter from the packed audience.  An Austin Healey story proved particularly hilarious!  A fantastic afternoon for any rugby fan with over £30,000 raised for the Wooden Spoon.  Amazing!
