Pen-y-Fan Dawn January 2024

When we parked in the Pen-y-Fan Pont ar Daf car park, it was still dark and the temperature was -6°C.  Unbeknown to us the bridge crossing the small stream leading to the main Pen-y-Fan path was no longer there and so we had to try and cross the stream, with stepping stones covered in thick ice.  After negotiating the icy water, my daughter Meg and I set off up the mountain, reaching the summit just as the sky was changing colour to welcome a new day.  At the top it was biting cold (at least -10°C. with windchill) and standing around to watch the sun rise and take photographs did not help.  But it was spectacular and worth getting up at 5:30am.  Another training hike completed ready for this year’s #BikeBoatBoot challenge for Ty Hafan.  And a few precious hours with my daughter.
