The Events Room’s annual Speaker of the Year dinner never fails to excite sports fans. The 2024 dinner, at the Hilton Hotel in Cardiff, was hosted by legendary broadcaster John Inverdale with mesmerising speeches from the worlds of cricket, football and rugby union. First to take the stage was England cricketer David Gower, followed by Wales and Nottingham Forest keeper Mark Crossley, and finally England second row Martin Bayfield. The trio recounted stories from their illustrious sporting careers and there were mentions of the Ashes, Brian Clough and life as a British and Irish Lion. A fantastic evening with Martin Bayfield securing the audience votes to be crowned the inaugural Speaker of the Year.
