Phil Bennett and Gareth Llewellyn Talk RugbyThursday February 18, 2016
The function room at Jury's Inn in Cardiff was packed with fervent rugby supporters listening intently to ex Welsh rugby internationals Phil Bennett and Gareth Llewellyn. There were stories from when they had played for Wales, the British Lions, Llanelli and Neath, each one illustrating why rugby union is the greatest game on the planet.
I was armed with my cameras taking photographs for Paul Fielding of Legends Hospitality, which can be seen in the Sports Hospitality Event Photography section of the website. Being a huge rugby fan, working at events like this is a true pleasure. Phil and Gareth were both fantastic, spending time with people in the room even if they were wearing the dark blue of Scotland!
Tingles ran down my spine as I listened to the Bois Goetre-Hen a'r Cylch Male Choir as they sang a range of traditional songs. Their beautiful voices adding to the growing atmosphere.
Pre-match events are fantastic as they provide somewhere to easily get a drink (it is not easy on international day in the centre of Cardiff), enjoy some great food and also get the chance to meet and talk to rugby greats. There was a large screen up in the room so we could watch as France beat Ireland, adding to the building atmosphere leading up to Wales taking on Scotland at the Principality Stadium.
Paul had also managed to get an original painting of Phil Bennett to auction at the event. The colours and textures were wonderful and Paul was able to raise over £1,000 for charity. Phil signed the painting in silver pen, making it a real rugby fan's dream. Fantastic!
Another great event and I am looking forward to the next one in Cardiff when Wales play France!
